The striker scored twice in three second-half minutes to help the Foxes to a 7-0 victory in Barnet, producing an outstanding performance that maintains Leicester's position at the top of the FA Women's Championship standings. City sit ahead of second-placed Durham on goal difference, with both teams having collected 38 points so far this term, ahead of the two sides meeting at Maiden Castle on Sunday 14 March (12pm GMT kick-off). Millie Farrow and Lachante Paul's double either side of half-time got the ball rolling for the visitors, before O'Brien's brace and a goal apiece for Natasha Flint and Esmee De Graaf completed the rout for the league leaders. O'Brien felt the team executed their game plan to perfection after now scoring a league-high 44 goals in 15 matches, averaging almost three goals a game, while also keeping a clean sheet at the other end.
"We were ruthless from the first minute I think," O'Brien reflected to LCFC TV after the game. "Jonathan [Morgan] has been reiterating it all week that we want as many goals as possible today. "We want to go into this game with as many goals, heading into next week and carry that standard on, but from the beginning to the final whistle I thought we were brilliant."
O'Brien, one of two mid-season signings at the Club, joined from league rivals Coventry United Ladies on an 18-month contract in January and has hit the ground running in recent weeks.
She made her maiden Leicester start in last week's home victory over Crystal Palace and was delighted to follow that up with her first two strikes after replacing Farrow as a 55th-minute substitute. "I was happy, I was so happy and relived," the 19-year-old added after getting off the mark for her new Club. "Last week was a good debut but I didn't really get a chance for a goal, but in the first two minutes I was on today I got one, so it took a lot of pressure off.
"It's great to come into [this team] and the girls have been so welcoming and all of them are such a talented group, so it's easy to just fit right in.
"You know you are going to get a lot of the ball, you know you are going to get chances and today showed how many chances we made. It's been great."
