- LCFC Women's latest challenge comes against Coventry United Ladies on Sunday (1pm kick-off)- January recruit Shannon O'Brien could face her former club if selected to play - The forward scored her first two goals for the Foxes earlier this month after her debut in February- She reveals how she has adapted to life in a professional environment since her move to Leicester
The FA Women's Championship clash, which Leicester enter on a run of 10 straight league wins, will pit the leaders against 10th-placed United, who are fighting for survival near the bottom of the table.
O'Brien could come up against her previous employers should she play a part on Sunday, having moved across the Midlands from Coventry United in January. The forward says everyone is keeping their feet on the ground after the Foxes' latest triumph against Durham, fully committed to producing another performance worthy of taking all three points. "It's another cup final, we've got four to go now," O'Brien said in Thursday's pre-match press conference. "We approach it how we do every other game. In reality, it's bigger than the Durham game because every single week will be bigger than the last.
"It's a massive game for us, we want three points, we want to keep the pressure on and keep the distance in the table. We can't jump ahead, we've got to take it game by game otherwise you get ahead of yourself.
"Personally, if I play, it will be strange because that's where I started my senior football career and I've never played against them before. If I'm on [the pitch] then great, but there's a high competition for places.
"I just want to be involved in the team as much as possible, play as much as I can, help the team as much as I can whenever I'm needed and then, as a club, hopefully we get to that end goal."
It has been a fast-paced introduction to professional football for the 19-year-old, who has settled into life as a full-time player with remarkable ease.
Making her full home debut in the 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in Quorn, the former Aston Villa youngster then netted her first two goals for the Club in a 7-0 triumph at London Bees. The forward hopes to continue that form between now and the end of the season, with four league games and a Vitality Women's FA Cup tie with Liverpool to come. "When I first joined, we didn't have a game for a couple of weeks and I was just training and training," O'Brien revealed, speaking about her first few days at City. "When we played Palace, I was just happy to play.
"And then the Bees game was nice because it settled my nerves and took a lot of pressure off. When you sign a new striker, everyone just expects them to get a goal straight away.
"It's been a whirlwind. The biggest change I've seen is the intensity of training and how serious the environment is.
"Every time you're here, it's your job and you're 100 per cent fully focused on football, which is something I haven't been in for my whole life, so it was a massive change to walk into that environment.
"Adapting physically to the standards that I need to have to keep up with the team, that's probably the most demanding thing. The first two weeks were probably a bit crazy but I think I've settled well.
"It's helped me a lot to have players my own age and also the likes of Remi [Allen] and Barks (Sophie Barker) who have that experience in this league and the league above, to tell me different things that I probably wouldn't have got from previous clubs. "Little details that they bring just really improve my game as well. It's a nice mix of having older players as you have a nice balance and get a different perspective from each person."
