City enter their 136th competitive match against the east London side having lost just three of the last 14 meetings. The Premier League fixture schedule also threw up a trip to face the Hammers at this exact stage of the 2015/16 title-winning season.
And although the three-time FA Cup winners have triumphed over the Foxes on 54 occasions, it was Leicester who came out on top when the two sides clashed for the final time at Upton Park.
Here, LCFC.com recounts the story of that day and how Claudio Ranieri’s side secured another three points at the start of the campaign…

Defeating Sunderland 4-2 on Filbert Way was the perfect start to Ranieri’s reign as Leicester manager and things would get even better for the Foxes when they arrived at the Boleyn Ground the following weekend.
They were facing a West Ham team who had finished 12th in the previous season, two places and six points ahead of Leicester, under the management of Sam Allardyce, who had since been replaced by Croatian coach Slaven Bilić.
But City also had a new man in the dugout – and a new striker. Shinji Okazaki, who made his debut against the Black Cats, scored the opening goal and his first for the Club after 27 minutes.
The Japanese forward latched onto Jamie Vardy’s cross from the left, seeing his initial effort saved by Adrián before nodding home the rebound from close range.
The hosts may have been aggrieved to go behind after enjoying a bright start to the game but could have no complaints when the second goal arrived 11 minutes later, with Okazaki involved once more.
He found Marc Albrighton, whose low cross allowed Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez to fire in an emphatic third goal of the season.
The Londoners felt they should have had a penalty when Diafra Sakho went down under a challenge from City ‘keeper Kasper Schmeichel, but referee Anthony Taylor was unmoved and Leicester maintained their two-goal advantage at the half-time interval.
West Ham pulled a goal back shortly after the break, however, via Dimitri Payet, who curled in a delightful finish at the second attempt, but it wasn’t enough to take anything from the game.
And the home side were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time as Adrián, up for a late corner, was shown a straight red card for a high boot on Vardy. The Foxes wrapped up victory in east London and would remain unbeaten throughout August on their way to a historic Premier League title.
City: Schmeichel; De Laet (Benalouane 66'), Huth, Morgan (c), Schlupp; Albrighton, Drinkwater, King, Mahrez (Fuchs 82'); Okazaki (Kanté 62'), Vardy.
Subs not used: Maddison, Hammond, Kramarić, Ulloa.
Goals: Okazaki 27’, Mahrez 38’.
Attendance: 34,857
