Shinji Okazaki has called for Leicester City to capitalise on their goalscoring chances when they face Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday.
The Foxes were held to a by Claude Puel’s men back in October – an encounter that produced few goalscoring opportunities.
Okazaki believes may be a similar affair and therefore says his side must be focused going forward against a well-drilled Saints outfit.
Speaking to LCFC TV, the striker said: “In the last game, both teams had very little chances. I think it will be a similar game against Southampton – we may not have many chances.
“That means we must be concentrated and if we have one, two or three chances, we need to score them.”
This fixture last term saw City recover from two goals down to – a draw that Okazaki came as a result of his side’s persistence.
“That game was very exciting,” Okazaki continued. “Southampton had a good balance but in the last 20 minutes, they lost their concentration and we scored twice.
“Around 60 minutes we started to do well and scored because we kept going. We tried for 90 minutes and we were concentrated – I think this is important for us.”
Okazaki says the potential of coming up against Japan international team-mate Maya Yoshida has been good motivation for the striker heading into the game.
“He’s my best friend in the national team and I often meet him sometimes in London,” Okazaki added. “He has been playing in the Premier League for four years now and I think he’s a good player.
“I want to play against him and that’s good motivation for me. I know how he plays in a team of 11. I watch Yoshida and every Japanese player.”
