- Jose Mourinho spoke specifically of Leicester City’s 2015/16 title triumph ahead of Sunday’s showdown at King Power Stadium
- The Manchester United manager branded last season as a ‘unique’ achievement for the Foxes
- Mourinho believes the absence of European football last term was a huge advantage for Claudio Ranieri’s men
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes Leicester City’s remarkable title triumph came as a result of being able to focus solely on their Premier League form.
Mourinho credited the Foxes for their 2015/16 exploits as both sides prepare at King Power Stadium, and says the absence of European football was a major factor in that triumph.
Speaking to the media prior to the game, the Red Devils boss revealed his thoughts on just how men managed to complete the most impossible of feats.
“First of all, I think what Leicester did is one of the biggest things in the world of football,” said Mourinho. “Nobody, even them, would expect to be champions again. What they did was unique.
“What they did was so unique that Claudio [Ranieri] deserved to be named the best manager in the world.
“It was amazing what they did and I don’t think it would be possible to do it in the second season, especially playing in the Champions League.
“The Champions League is hard and they were working a complete season with one match per week, competing against teams that were in the Champions League. That was a big difference for them.”
