- Trevor Peake expects the toughest test so far against Middlesbrough in the FA Youth Cup on Friday night (7pm kick-off)
- The Leicester City Under-18s have defeated Leyton Orient and Carlisle United, both at King Power Stadium, so far this year
- City reached the semi-finals of the competition in 2015 and Peake is optimistic of his side's chances of getting past Boro
- Peake also says he is thrilled for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after the young midfielder stepped up to the Under-23s this week
Trevor Peake has warned his Leicester City Under-18s side they face the toughest match of their FA Youth Cup campaign so far against Middlesbrough at Bishop Aukland on Friday night (7pm kick-off).
The young Foxes have already , both of which came at King Power Stadium, but they must now overcome a if they are to reach the sixth round.
Peake expects Boro to put up more of a fight in the North East on Friday and says his players will take a great deal of experience into the match with many having represented the Club at Under-23s level this season.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Bishop Aukland, Academy manager Peake told LCFC.com: “We’ve seen them in the last round when they beat Fulham 2-1 and in this day and age we’ve got plenty of analysis.
“I thought it was a very even game between two very good sides and they’ve both got the quality you would expect from academies of their standard.
“For the first time we’re up against a side in our category. There naturally is a difference between Category 1 clubs and Category 2 or 3 clubs. It will be like playing our normal league games.
“They’ve got their strengths and weaknesses as we do. We have got to get used to the surroundings up there quickly. A lot of them have played for the Under-23s at different venues like Bishop Aukland.
“It’s quite a similar set-up to the Holmes Park matches we’ve played so that will stand them in good stead but it will be about who settles the quickest.”
Peake also admitted he is thrilled for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after the young Leicester City midfielder became the latest Academy graduate to make the step up to Steve Beaglehole's Development Squad this week.
Dewsbury-Hall was part of the contingent which Peake took to Germany last month for the Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup and he has also proven to be a reliable source of both goals and creativity for the Under-18s domestically.
The Shephed-based midfielder, an unused substitute for the Under-23s against Manchester City at Holmes Park on Monday night, scored a brilliant free-kick in a 2-1 reverse for Peake’s men against Swansea City last month.
“It’s terrific for the lad himself, he has worked his socks off,” Peake added. “He’s played virtually every league match for us this season and his approach is a winning mentality. It’s great that his hard work has been recognised.
“He has been a little unfortunate not to have moved up before. I’ve had positive discussions with Steve and [Under-23s assistant coach] Ben Petty about him before Christmas."
Peake believes Dewsbury-Hall has benefitted from the decision to loan Harvey Barnes out to MK Dons this winter and has suggested the 18-year-old has all the qualities to fill the midfield void for the Development Squad.
“The bodies in his position were very plentiful over Christmas,” he added. “Now Harvey has moved out on loan at MK Dons and Matty James, who played for them too, is away with Barnsely, it’s given him a chance.
“It’s a great opportunity for him to be around the Under-23s in training and to learn from the way they do things under Steve and Ben. He’s done well enough over the last few months, obviously, to have made that step up.
“We just hope that is a consistent step up for him but that will boil down to his performances in training and games.”
The winner of Friday's meeting between City and Boro will face Chelsea in the sixth round at home on Saturday 25 February (7pm KO). D
