- LCFC Women face Manchester City on Saturday at King Power Stadium- The Barclays Women's Super League fixture has a 5:15pm kick-off- Lena Petermann has scored two goals so far this season- Tickets for this weekend's match can be found HERE
German striker Petermann has been enjoying life in the East Midlands, since joining this summer from Montpellier, and already has two goals to her name, against Bristol City on the opening day and Everton in the previous game at King Power Stadium.
The Foxes are so far unbeaten in their first four games of the 2023/24 campaign, tallying up seven points in the WSL, most recently securing a point on the road to Manchester United as Aileen Whelan broke the deadlock at Leigh Sports Village.
Now looking ahead to Saturday's match, where Leicester welcome Man City to Filbert Way, the No.9 believes Willie Kirk's side have every reason to head into the weekend brimming with confidence, against a side who currently lead the standings on goal difference.
"Everyone is feeling quite confident," Petermann explained to the media during Thursday's press conference. "We can be confident because we're still unbeaten, and we are for a reason. We've been playing well, we fight a lot so everyone is really looking forward to being back on the pitch and showing what we can do.
"Manchester City are a really good team, but for me, I don't really care about who I'm playing. I just want to play well, and get three points. Those are of course special games to play in, but we focus on ourselves.
"Playing against the top teams in the league are special moments, but you've got to be at 100 per cent should you want to win. You need to be winning your duels and battling all over the pitch. You saw against Man Utd that we had a bit of luck, but we fought until the end, and when you take the points, or even one, it makes it even more special so that's what we're aiming for."
Leicester have started their WSL campaign is extraordinary fashion compared to last term where they had to wait until January before picking up a point, and after taking two years to acclimatise to England's top division, are on track to stabilising themselves as a WSL team that Manager Kirk has previously stated are here to compete, not make up the numbers.
Petermann has settled into Leicestershire life well following her move from France, and the players and coaching staff have made her feel welcome, while the impact the fans have on producing positive performances should not be understated.
"I'm really happy to be here, and I love being part of this Club," the 29-year-old continued. "It was easy for me to settle into the team; after a couple of weeks, I felt like I'd been here for a long time. My team-mates and staff made that transition easy for me. I think you can see that in my first performances here that I'm enjoying myself.
"Training is really good here, it's at a good level and I'm enjoying it. Even though I'm a little bit older with experience, I'm still learning from these training sessions and it's good for my career to be here at Leicester. My other team-mates say that I'm quite calm and kind off the pitch, but can be physical and willing to fight on the pitch.
"The fans have a big influence on our home games at King Power Stadium, they're always cheering us on and there when we make a tackle or a good pass or score a goal. Even though the stadium isn't full, there's always a good mood there and they play a big part."
