- Development Squad assistant manager Ben Petty reflects on Monday's victory over Wolves- As a result, Leicester City's youngsters are now into the semi-finals of the Premier League Cup- Liandro Martis opened the scoring before Harvey Barnes sealed victory late on- Petty was delighted to see the Foxes express themselves in attacking positions in Whetstone
Goals from Liandro Martis and Harvey Barnes booked a place in the semi-finals of the Premier League Cup for the Foxes, who also sit atop of the Premier League 2 standings.
While Wolves caused City problems in the final third, it was at the opposite end where the headlines were made as Martis and Barnes sealed their 10th home victory of the 2017/18 season.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game after not having had a game for three weeks, in the quarter-finals of the cup against local rivals in difficult conditions,” Petty told LCFC TV.
“We really got that and I think we’re happy with that, going into the weekend, coming through unscathed - a good 90 minutes and obviously through to the semi-finals.”
In front of goal, Martis etched his name onto the scoresheet for the first time this season while Barnes added a fourth strike since he returned to the Club from Barnsley in January.
Petty added: “It was pleasing because [Martis has] made an impact in the last few games. He’s deserved his start tonight and we got a good 55-60 minutes out of him.
“Credit to him, right place at the right time, hit the target and got the deflection and it went in. We’re pleased with Liandro tonight.
“Harvey has shown a fantastic attitude, it’s not easy for a young player when they go into the senior team and he was at Barnsley before Christmas.
"But you've just seen Barnsey’s quality in the second half tonight when he came into the game and gets stronger.
“His pace is outstanding tonight and he could have had three or four tonight.”
