Leicester City Development Squad assistant coach Ben Petty was disappointed with the on Monday night but says he couldn't fault their effort at Holmes Park.
Goals by Ryan Seager and Alfie Jones handed the Saints a hard-earned victory on a rain-soaked evening in Whetstone and Petty admits the Premier League 2 clash was a difficult one for his players.
City handed a first start to new loan signing Molla Wagué and the Mali international defender proved to be a hit with the 398-strong crowd as he continues his preparations to make his first-team debut.
Petty told LCFC TV: “Very disappointed. We felt after the great performance of last week that it was a great stepping stone to move on tonight. There wasn’t a lot in the game and we conceded first which gave us an uphill struggle.
“We were disappointed because we felt we were going to get something out of the game. It knocked us, confidence wise, and it took us about 15 minutes to get back into the game.
“In the second half we really wanted to push on but chances were hard to come by. It was a very tough game, physically it’s took it out of the players, but they gave it everything.
“It’s a young group, we’ve got a long of believe in them but they’re finding it tough at the moment. They’re working really hard on the training pitch and we’re seeing improvement from them but they’ve got to take that into games.”
Petty was buoyed by Wagué’s display and says his performance is good news for Claudio Ranieri and the first-team set-up after joining the Club on loan from Granada on transfer deadline day.
“I thought he was very good,” he added. “It wasn’t easy for him because he doesn’t know any of the players and he’s only had a few days of training. His attitude and his application and his training was very good so that looks good for the first team.”
