- Ben Petty was disappointed with Leicester City Under-23s' defeat by Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday
- City were unable to start 2017 on a winning note against the Seagulls at St George's Park in the Premier League Cup
- Conor Tighe's 64th minute strike proved to be the only goal of the game - a source of frustration for Petty at full-time
- The Foxes assistant coach has challenged his players to be more forceful in attack over the coming weeks and months
Ben Petty has called upon the Leicester City Development Squad to be a more potent attacking force following the 1-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League Cup.
Conor Tighe’s 64th minute strike at St George’s Park was enough for the Seagulls to defeat Steve Beaglehole’s men on Wednesday afternoon and Petty, the City Under-23s assistant coach, offered his thoughts at full-time.
Admitting to a sense of frustration that Leicester’s dominance did not reap any goals, Petty says his players need to work on their play in the final third if they are to start picking up positive results on a more regular basis.
Speaking to LCFC TV, Petty said: “We’re very disappointed. We felt, in the second half, that we were on top.
“We controlled the game. We didn’t create as many clear-cut chances as we would have wished but then we got caught on the counter-attack.
“We’ve stressed that as a major factor to the players. We need to take more care around the final third, the last ball has to be better.
“We’ve got into many good crossing positions, more than Brighton. To get done from our corner on a counter-attack is a real blow.
“We’ve told the lads we need to work hard on that time of the game and to try and get ourselves in front in games.”
