While the Foxes are newly-crowned FA Cup winners, as well as securing their second best-ever top-flight points tally, it was a different story 19 years ago as Leicester contested the last competitive fixture at the Club's home after over a century of residence. Ahead of Sunday's season finale against Spurs, LCFC.com looks back to that day... Leicester City 2 Tottenham Hotspur 1Saturday 11 May, 2002Filbert StreetPremier League
Paul Dickov and Matt Piper were among the goals as Leicester City brought the curtain down on their 111-year association with Filbert Street on 11 May, 2002.
Despite Teddy Sheringham and Darren Anderton being menaces for the Foxes in the first half, Micky Adams' men went in at the break level with Glenn Hoddle's visitors, who would finish the 2001/02 campaign 22 points and 11 places above City. Lee Marshall's late challenge on Stephen Clemence in Leicester's penalty area, though, offered the visitors an opportunity to take the lead and it was one which Sheringham took full advantage of as he riffled past ex-Spurs goalkeeper Ian Walker.
Just as it seemed likely City would bid goodbye to their home with another defeat, Adams' side sprung into life, as winter signing Dickov wriggled into a pocket of space on the edge of the area and slammed the ball beyond former Fox Kasey Keller in Tottenham's net.
That effort, in front of the old Double Decker Stand, also rejuvenated an already supportive home crowd and the relegated Foxes surged forward in search of a winner in the early May sunshine.
It came in fitting circumstances, too, as captain Matt Elliott's header was flicked on towards Academy graduate and Leicester local Piper to nod into the net to ultimately seal an emotional final-day success for the Foxes.
Sheringham had a late chance to rescue a point for Spurs, but Walker's save saw Filbert Street erupt with elation as Adams' men closed out the game for a morale-boosting victory after an otherwise damaging season for the Foxes.
