- The Adobe Women’s FA Cup Fourth Round commences this weekend- LCFC Women tackle Derby County in a 3pm kick-off on Sunday- The Foxes are entering the competition at this stage- Ticketing information can be found HERE
The New Year begins with the Foxes turning attention to the FA Cup, against third tier Derby, with this weekend’s trip to Don Amott Arena offering an opportunity to start 2024 on a positive note. Ahead of the Midlands match-up, here’s an insight into both camps…
The Foxes camp
Eighth in the Barclays Women’s Super League at the half-way stage of the season, collecting 10 points from 10 games, and remaining in with a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Continental Tyres League Cup, it has been a solid campaign so far.
**The opposition**
Also eighth in their respective league, the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division, the Ewe Rams have collected 12 points in nine matches, including a 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Nottingham Forest, as well as successive 4-0 away wins against Huddersfield Town and AFC Fylde.
In the first round of the cup, Derby defeated Lincoln City 5-1, saw off Loughborough Lightning 4-1 in the next round and beat Chester-Le-Street 5-1 in the third round.
**In the dugout**
Derby’s head coach since the 2018/19 season, Sam Griffiths has enjoyed a successful stint managing her former club, who she signed for as a player back in 2009 and went on to captain several times. Previously heading up Derby County Women's Centre of Excellence Under-17s and the role of Director of Football in 2016, she reached the milestone of 100 matches in charge last term.
**Last time out
**
The pair haven’t faced off competitively in over six years, with the last meetings both coming during the 2017/18 FA Women’s National League season before Leicester turned professional. Following a 1-1 draw at Don Amott Arena in September 2017, the Foxes came out on top in the reverse fixture less than a month later, winning 4-1.
