Claudio Ranieri believes Leicester City will begin to gain some momentum in the Premier League in 2017, as his side prepare to take on Middlesbrough on Monday.
Searching for their first away win in the league this season, the Foxes next face Aitor Karanka’s men at the Riverside Stadium.
The 1-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday will give City a perfect foundation to begin the New Year on the front foot, but Ranieri knows his side must concentrate on their own performance against a well-drilled Boro team.
“All the numbers must finish and sooner or later, we have to win away,” Ranieri said ahead of Monday’s clash. “One match, we have to win away.
“We made a fantastic performance against West Ham – a team that are very confident. Now, it’s important to keep this momentum and also be confident after being up and down.
“I’m very confident for 2017. We have to think about ourselves and go there and be very solid and very strong.”
City face the challenge of playing twice in just three days and the City boss revealed he will assess the fitness of his squad on Sunday before selecting his starting XI the following day.
Ranieri added: “It was important to win [against West Ham], but it’s also important to start well in 2017. I’ll see on Sunday if there are any injuries because now we have just one day [to recover].
“We’ll check everybody and I will ask everybody if they have recovered very well. On the day of the match I’ll choose the best XI to play against Middlesbrough. We have to say ‘okay, we are ready’.”
