- Ricardo Pereira has reflected on Leicester City's first week of pre-season- The Foxes have enjoyed a week of work under new Manager Enzo Maresca- Ricardo admits it is 'different' but is embracing the new challenges posed in Seagrave- He also highlighted the importance of learning from and remedying the end of last season
Sights are set on the Premier League after last season's relegation and Ricardo, a full Portugal international, has enjoyed returning for pre-season training this summer. With new leadership from Enzo Maresca and his backroom team, alongside two new additions in Conor Coady and Harry Winks, the plans for 2023/24 are taking shape in Seagrave. There's plenty more work to be done for the Foxes, who aim to sustain a prolonged promotion charge over the 46-game season, but Ricardo has been enthused by what he's experienced this week.
"It's a little bit different," City's No.21 said. "Some players have left, some players arrived, there's a new coach too, and we're starting to know each other. That's what the pre-season is for.
"It's always different when you have a new manager. They have different ideas, different things they want the team to do. But I'm really happy and I'm enjoying this first couple of days.
"Of course, we cannot forget what happened [last season]. We have to learn from it, but it's a new page today. We start from zero and keep going."
Before long, Leicester's pre-season programme of friendlies will begin and Ricardo is looking forward to returning to action.
"I think it's always different when you have games, even if it's a friendly, it's different than just training," he added.
"To be against a different team, they have different strategies... it's good to put that to the test and to improve."
