- Brendan Rodgers speaks following Leicester City's 2-0 friendly success at Birmingham City- Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Marc Albrighton got the goals for the Foxes in the West Midlands- The Northern Irishman discussed several players agreeing new contracts at the Football Club- Rodgers was also enthused by the performance of youngster Sidnei Tavares in Birmingham
Jamie Vardy will remain at King Power Stadium until at least 2023, while James Maddison, on the other hand, committed his future to the Club until 2024 earlier this week.
Those announcements were joined by confirmation that youngster Luke Thomas has agreed a new long-term deal at Filbert Way, alongside an extension until 2023 for Papy Mendy.
On Wednesday, Rodgers watched on as a youthful Foxes line-up triumphed 2-0 at Birmingham City's training ground in Leicester's maiden pre-season friendly ahead of the 2020/21 season.
Reflecting on the news that four players have reiterated their commitment to the Club's future, Rodgers outlined their importance to his strategy to improve even further.
"I’m absolutely delighted," he told LCFC TV. "Obviously, Jamie speaks for himself. I’m so happy he’s in our changing room as one of the leading strikers in world football.
"It was very important to just extend his deal and he’s a big part of what we’ll do over these next few years, as will James Maddison, at the other end of his Premier League career.
"He’s a big, big talent and now he must show that ambition and desire to keep improving. For both those boys to continue to work here, obviously it of course makes me really happy."
Rodgers also highlighted several players for praise following the match itself, picking out the quality of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's opener and the commitment showed by Marc Albrighton for City's second.
While pleased with the performances of all the youngster players to feature among a 22-man matchday squad, the Northern Irishman also elected to pick out the display of midfielder Sidnei Tavares.
"Sidnei in the first half, I thought was outstanding," he continued. "He’s got real quality and real talent and we’ve now got to bring him up to that level where he’s a working talent.
"[We want him to] have that hunger when he hasn’t got the ball, but a lot of them came in and showed that very well."
