- Brendan Rodgers reacts to Leicester City's 1-0 loss at Legia Warsaw- The Foxes had several chances, but Mahir Emreli's first-half goal was the difference- Rodgers points to the need to start games more brightly- He also highlights the openness of Group C in the UEFA Europa League
City fell to a 1-0 reverse at Legia Warsaw in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, courtesy of Mahir Emreli's 31st-minute strike, but the Foxes did carve out opportunities at Stadion Wojska Polskiego.
Defender Jannik Vestergaard, in particular, was unfortunate not to get Leicester back on level terms with a powerful header in the second half, while Ayoze Pérez also missed the target on two occasions before the interval in the first half in the Polish capital.
"It was a great ball in and he'll (Vestergaard) be disappointed that he hasn't scored," Rodgers said at full-time. "We had a few good opportunities. Ayo (Pérez) had two in the first half and went close. We had enough in the game to have got something, but that's the way it falls for you sometimes.
"The reaction was good in the second half, but we need to be much more active in the game. It's something we spoke about afterwards. We've got to have that aggressive mentality and it was the same against Burnley where we were too passive in the first half and much better in the second.
"We've got to start games well and finish them strongly and, at the moment, we're finishing strong, but not starting so well. That's my responsibility to fix that."
Rodgers is nonetheless confident that Leicester can still emerge from Group C and head into the knockout stages of the Europa League, with Spartak Moscow securing a shock victory at Napoli on Thursday evening. All sides now have points on the board after two matches.
"It's very open," he added. "We've got four games to go. Legia have made a good start in it, but our aim is to qualify and we've still got every chance to do that. We've got work to do, especially after drawing the first game. We should have taken something from this game, but we haven't.
"We've got one point from two games. There's a bit of work to do, but there's enough time and enough opportunity for us to do that."
