- Leicester City suffered a 1-0 defeat by Chelsea in the Emirates FA Cup Quarter-Finals on Sunday- The Foxes performed well for much of the match and were unlucky in defeat, Brendan Rodgers says- City's manager saw reasons for optimism in the nature of City's performance on Filbert Way- The 47-year-old also provide an update on the fitness of James Maddison, who missed the game
The Foxes performed admirably for large phases of Sunday's clash Frank Lampard's Blues, but a second-half strike from Ross Barkley settled the behind-closed-doors fixture at King Power Stadium.
However, Rodgers, whose side had drawn their two preceding Premier League games - against Watford and Brighton & Hove Albion - believes progress has been made in regard to City's style of play.
"I think the level was very good," the Northern Irishman said following full-time in an interview with LCFC TV. "We were very intense, very aggressive in the game. The only thing we didn't do was score, which in these types of games, you have to be able to do that, so it wasn't to be.
"We pushed, we maintained the belief, which was important, right to the very end. We just couldn't quite make the breakthrough.
"That's very important for us and the intensity of how we play. Like I say, it's a performance that gives us confidence now.
"We were waiting for that tempo, that intensity, to come back into our game. We started quickly, which is what this team needs to do and what we will always want to do.
"Now it's about taking it into the remaining games. But I think, overall, the cup competitions... we've taken [them] seriously.
"We've shown that we want to reach finals. We got to a quarter-final, a semi-final and now, next year, we'll look to learn from it and make the next steps."
Midfielder James Maddison, meanwhile, missed the game after sustaining a knock in the build-up to Sunday's match, but Rodgers says he could be available for next weekend.
While a 'doubt' for Wednesday's visit to Everton (6pm kick-off), the England midfielder could be ready to make a return against Crystal Palace on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
"Well, we'll have to see," Rodgers explained. "He's taken a knock. He will be a doubt for Wednesday.
"There's a bigger opportunity in him probably being available next weekend, but we'll see over the next 48 hours."
