- Brendan Rodgers previews Sunday's Premier League opener at West Bromwich Albion (2pm BST kick-off)- Leicester City commence their 2020/21 top-flight campaign against Slaven Bilić's newly-promoted Baggies- Rodgers has pointed to the quality and experience which is present in Albion's first team squad- The 47-year-old also discusses the Foxes' ambitions for the Club's seventh top-flight season in a row
This weekend's curtain-raiser sees City, who finished fifth in last season's Premier League, tackle Slaven Bilić's newly-promoted Baggies, who ended as runners-up in the Sky Bet Championship.
However, Rodgers is fully aware that Bilić has a squad of players who are experienced at top-flight level and will be determined to remain in the Premier League for another season.
"They’ve got an excellent manager," the Northern Irishman said. "Slaven is someone who’s very experienced, he’s worked in the Premier League before, and West Brom are a very good club.
"They’ve been up and down a few times in the last few years, but they’re a Premier League club with some very, very good players. They’re players with experience in the Premier League.
"I know some of the guys, Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu, boys who have been around the Premier League before.
"They’re guys with experience, so I think it’ll be a difficult game for us, and we’ll prepare for that."
Rodgers is not putting a specific target in place, publicly at least, for his Foxes side this term, but is keen to see Leicester be competitive in all fixtures throughout the 2020/21 campaign.
City will combine their duties in the Premier League, Emirates FA Cup and Carabao Cup with a return to the continental stage in the UEFA Europa League this term - and Rodgers is excited by the challenge.
"We had some great moments last year and then we fell short in terms of the Champions League, but the players showed the huge potential that there is at the Club," he added.
"Those players will hopefully go on again to improve this year, but it’s also about quality. There’s absolutely no doubt, at this moment, going into the first game, that we’re excited by the season.
"We want to be really competitive and that is our stall that we set out last pre-season. No one expected that we could get into the top six, but our aim is to be competitive this season.
"It’s always going to be about working with the players that we have and that excites me about this season because we have so many young players, so they’re going to improve."
Jamie Vardy, last season's Golden Boot winner, has scored on all four of his previous Premier League visits to the Hawthorns - each of which ended in victories for the Foxes.
Rodgers is hopeful that City's No.9 can maintain that excellent form against the Baggies, but stressed the importance of his team-mates also contributing in front of goal.
"That will be the idea, but we can’t just rely on Jamie," he continued. "There has to be other players that can give us that threat, but he’ll want to start off like most goalscorers.
"They want to score as soon as possible, so hopefully he can get a goal – or two."
