- Brendan Rodgers provides his post-match thoughts after Leicester City's 2-0 win at home to Chelsea _- Wilfred Ndidi and James Maddison were both on target for the Foxes at King Power Stadium on Tuesday__- The result moves Leicester to the top of the Premier League standings after 19 games_- Rodgers credits the all-round performance from the team, who impressed at both ends of the pitch
Back at King Power Stadium following the impressive triumph over Southampton three days earlier, this latest 2-0 scoreline was just as convincing from the hosts. James Maddison, on the scoresheet for the third time in as many top-flight games, converted Marc Albrighton's centre to wrap up the three points in the second half. Wilfred Ndidi, meanwhile, showed his qualities in the holding midfield role, while also providing the first goal of the evening with a left-footed strike, off the post. Speaking to LCFC TV after full-time, Rodgers reserved praise for the combative midfielder and highlighted the work done on the training pitch to create effective set-piece opportunities. "We’d set up a corner routine that went perfectly, really, and Harvey [Barnes], it came to him, he was the player we wanted on it," the Northern Irishman revealed in his post-match interview. "And he just mis-kicked it, but Wilf (Wilfred Ndidi) was there and we’ve seen a few in recent games fly over the bar and hit the corner flag, but he caught that one really well.
"Chris Davies does our attacking set pieces and he’s always looking for ways and routines in order to get in, so we’d spotted something in the build up to the game that we might be able to exploit and he set it up and worked it perfectly."
The contest could have swung in Chelsea's favour after the awarding of a penalty for the visitors, which was subsequently overturned, while Rodgers was pleased with his side's clinical nature to finish off the chance they created almost immediately after.
There was further positive news as the introduction of Ricardo Pereira as a second-half substitute marked his first Premier League appearance of the campaign. City's manager added: "That’s the game, especially when you’re playing against talented players, quality players. He (Jonny Evans) made the tackle on the edge of the box and it was obviously clearly not [a penalty]. "He gives us that stability," Rodgers said of Portuguese international Ricardo. "It’s brilliant to have him back. He’s been in now for a few weeks consistently, so it was nice to get him on the field and close out the game.
"Marc Albrighton gave so much to the game, but it was good to have him (Ricardo) back and he's another option for the squad."
