- Leicester City and Burnley played out a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor on Wednesday evening- Matěj Vydra gave the Clarets an early lead, but Kelechi Iheanacho hit back for the Foxes- Brendan Rodgers was pleased by his players' mentality to come back from behind in Lancashire- The Northern Irishman also discussed Sidnei Tavares' Premier League debut for the Club
The Foxes fell behind after four minutes in Lancashire as Matěj Vydra capitalised on a loose ball to fire the Clarets ahead, but the visitors hit back through Kelechi Iheanacho's brilliant volley before the break. Reflecting on a fixture which ended with City securing their 50th Premier League point of the season, the manager acknowledged his side's slow start, but credited them for an improved showing later on. "There was some really good combination play," Rodgers told LCFC TV at full-time. "When we moved the ball and played with that little bit of patience, then we looked a threat. "We got into some really good areas, Hamza [Choudhury] missed a great opportunity as well in the first half. We created chances, Youri [Tielemans] hit the post late on, and it looked like we were going to force the winner, but it wasn’t to be." The Northern Irishman was pleased by the manner in which Leicester did not allow their heads to drop after conceding so early at Turf Moor and he pointed to the players' mentality in his assessment.
"It’s always important that you don’t let [self doubt] develop," he continued. "We could have felt sorry for ourselves having gone behind, but it’s a very honest group of players that had to come here.
"They had to fight, which is very important, and then we looked to play the football that has been our process, really, for two years."
Midfielder Sidnei Tavares, on the other hand, emerged from the bench to make his top-flight debut for the Club and Rodgers outlined some of the young Portuguese's qualities.
"He’s only a young player," the 48-year-old continued. "I’ll always look at our young players, but I was pleased with him. He can take the ball, he can pass the ball, he has confidence, and that’s something that, technically, I always look for in players, that they want the ball, which is so important.
"He has a love of the ball, which is great. You can see his physicality, he’s a good size and has good running ability, and it was a good test for him.
"He’s got a bloodied lip in there which is a 'welcome to the Premier League', but he’ll deal with that and get stronger and hopefully he can have a really good Leicester career."
