- Leicester City face Sheffield United at King Power Stadium on Thursday (6pm kick-off)- Brendan Rodgers said Sunday’s defeat at Bournemouth was a learning curve for everyone- His side are looking to bounce back when they take on the Blades later this week- Full coverage of the game will be available on LCFC TV and LCFC Radio
Rodgers’ side, who lie fourth in the league standings, have three games remaining in the current campaign, starting with a visit from Chris Wilder’s in-form Sheffield United outfit.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s clash with the Blades, the Northern Irishman said City will learn from the mistakes they made in their defeat at Bournemouth and are now relishing the challenge to come.
“It’s exciting, the players are very much there on merit and now we have to go into each game and take it from there, because there still will be twists and turns in it, I’m sure,” he said.
“All of this is a learning experience for myself and for the players. I’ve commended them right the way through the season. I have a great trust in the players here because they give absolutely everything.
“We don’t want that performance to affect these last three games and I think it won’t. I think it will actually be the reverse, we’ll use it as a great learning experience to grow and to become better.
"We fell well below the level that we wanted and, for me, it’s always been about the performance level, I’ve talked consistently about that since I’ve been here.
“We’ve got to where we have in the last year and a bit because of our process and we trust that process and continue with that. We’ve shown we have a blueprint that wins football games in a style that we want.”
While further fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and then Manchester United are to come before the end of the season, Rodgers insists he is not looking any further ahead than targeting three points against the Blades.
“It’s a game that we have always earmarked that we have to win,” Rodgers added. “Obviously, the results over the course of the weekend showed you the fluctuation and the rollercoaster that the league is.
“But for us, there’s no change. The destiny is always with us. We’re happy to accept the responsibility and pressure and look to take that into the next game.
“We’re bitterly disappointed with the result and second-half performance (at Bournemouth). But we have to move on from that and that’s the type of mentality that we’ve always had. It’s a very humble group and they’re always willing to learn.
“We got over it very quickly and, like we said at the beginning of the process, whether we win, lose or draw, you cannot be derailed by any result in this period, we just have to move on to the next game and that’s what we’ve done.
“We’re just concentrating on finishing as high as we can. We’ve got three games to go and what an incredible position we’re in because of the work we’ve done throughout the season.
“The players have been really positive in training today, with a real positive mindset and we’re looking forward to the next challenge.”
