- Brendan Rodgers says Leicester City are planning to welcome back Ricardo Pereira, Wilfred Ndidi and Çağlar Söyüncü to action later this week- All three stars have missed a significant proportion of the season due to injury- Ricardo has not featured since March, when he picked up an ACL problem against Aston Villa
The Foxes have been without Portugal star Ricardo Pereira since March due to an ACL injury, while centre-back Çağlar Söyüncü and midfielder Wilfred Ndidi have both suffered from adductor problems this campaign. However, speaking to LCFC TV following Monday’s 2-1 defeat by Fulham in the Premier League, Rodgers says all three could feature in Thursday’s UEFA Europa League encounter with Zorya Luhansk in Ukraine. “That’s the plan,” said Rodgers when asked whether they will play later this week. “Hopefully, Ricky (Ricardo Pereira), Wilf [Ndidi] and Çağs (Çağlar Söyüncü) will be able to do that, yes.
“The players have done smashing up until now – [there’s] so many out. However, we’ll work on [getting] those guys back because they’re top-quality players.”
It will be welcome news for Rodgers, who has seen a number of his stars adapt their games to play in unfamiliar positions this term.
“We’ve been pretty steady in our formation because of the players that we’re missing,” Rodgers said. “We’re missing a lot of our defensive solidity in players, so we’ve been playing a back five.
“We changed at half-time to try and bring our wingers into the game, and try and create a little bit more. In the main, we’ve been pretty steady for most of the season.”
On Monday, during the clash with Fulham, City were paired with Championship side Stoke City in the FA Cup Third Round, where Rodgers will be reacquainted with fellow Northern Irishman Michael O’Neill, who manages the Staffordshire outfit. Rodgers said of the tie: “It’s obviously a tough draw, but I’ll look forward to seeing Michael [O’Neill], who I know really well, so we’ll go there, and when that comes, we’ll look forward to it.”
