- Leicester City sit fourth in the Premier League standings after Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal- Brendan Rodgers says the Foxes will keep fighting until the end in the remaining four games of the Premier League season- Rodgers’ side visit AFC Bournemouth on Sunday evening (7pm kick-off)- Live coverage of the clash at Vitality Stadium is available on LCFC Radio and LCFC TV
City have scored 18 goals in the final 15 minutes of games this campaign - only Manchester City have found the net more times during that timeframe.
The latest of those late goals came at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday as Jamie Vardy netted his 22nd Premier League goal of the season in the 84th minute to rescue a point against the Gunners.
And Rodgers, speaking ahead of the weekend trip to the south coast, believes his side have the correct mentality to continue scoring crucial goals, whatever the game situation may be.
“From the first whistle to the last whistle we need to fight to the very end,” he said in his pre-match Zoom press conference with the media on Friday afternoon.
“Whether you’re winning three or four nil, you have to push, or whether you’re behind in a game or drawing a game, you want to win it.
“I think it’s a mental attitude that we’re never beat, that we keep pushing. We’ve shown our mental strength, but it’s also physicality.
“We’ve got a really good level of fitness within the squad and that is a testament to how hard they are working on a daily basis and the recovery strategy.
“Emotionally for the players, we try to help them to push and they continually do that. It’s great to have that within your team, knowing that the game is never over until the final whistle.
“It’s important not to become too emotional and not to lose focus. For us to be where we’ve been, it’s about a process - our work, how we play, our intensity. When you don’t perform well, you’ve got less chance to get results.”
Leicester have recovered from picking up two points from the opening three league games since the restart to defeat Crystal Palace at King Power Stadium, before the draw at Arsenal.
And the 47-year-old believes his side deserve credit for the way they have managed to get those results, despite losing key players to injury during the final run-in.
He added: “Without being at our fluent best, which is natural when you’ve got the players missing that we have, and that are as influential as they are, then of course the performance may not quite be at the same level.
“But I think we’ve showed the resilience in the team and you need that because you’re not going to play scintillating football every single week.
“In that little period of adversity there was a great opportunity to come through that. We knew Crystal Palace was going to be a tough game, we came through that.
“And when the question was asked of us against a team like Arsenal, who have done so well over their last four games and played with confidence, we were able to go there and get a result, which I felt was really important for us.
“The mentality of this team and the resilience that they demonstrate is a very important trait in any good team.”
