- Leicester City were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Sunday- Manager Brendan Rodgers discussed the selection after that Premier League clash- The Northern Irishman also praised the performance of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the capital
Leicester City performed admirably in spells at Emirates Stadium but fell to defeat after Thomas Partey's early header was followed up by a Alexandre Lacazette spot-kick. It's a result which leaves City 12th in the Premier League between two legs against Rennes in the UEFA Europa Conference League. "Physically, it’s tough for us, having so many players out throughout the season," Rodgers said at full-time. "That depth of quality probably isn’t in our squad which a lot of teams in Europe, especially at the top, would have. The players give everything. Somewhere along the line, we have to try and recover players.
"Today we brought out Wilf [Ndidi] and Youri [Tielemans], but we brought in Papy [Mendy], who’s recently won the Africa Cup of Nations and I thought did really well, and James Maddison, who’s a very gifted player. Some of our other guys, we haven’t been able to change. "Our full-backs are coming back, but they can’t play 90 minutes, so Ricardo Pereira can only play 60. There’s one sub before even thinking about anything else in the game because he’s coming off. JJ (James Justin) comes in. You’re trying to get these guys up to match fitness, but it is a real challenge for us." Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, on the other hand, impressed once again for the Foxes. The Academy graduate has made 28 appearances in all competitions for Leicester this term and is earning a reputation for himself at the highest level. "He’s got big potential," Rodgers added. "It’s just time and experience. He’s playing game after game. He’s got an incredible physicality. With experience, he’s only going to get better. I thought that side was a real threat for us in the first half.
"Luke Thomas as well, at 20 years of age, Harvey Barnes… they looked a real threat as well. That triangle has been working really well for us. With Kiernan, it’s just patience, just time, experience, intensity. "When you’re playing virtually three games in the week, for a young player, that can be tough, especially at a high level. He’s only going to improve and get better and I think we’ll see those improvements over these next two or three years."
