- Brendan Rodgers was pleased to welcome Jannik Vestergaard and Jonny Evans back on Saturday- Vestergaard impressed after starting against Manchester City, while Evans emerged from the bench- The Foxes were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Premier League champions Man City at King Power Stadium- Rodgers also discussed the cameo made by substitute Ademola Lookman, a new loan signing
The Foxes suffered a slender 1-0 loss to the reigning Premier League champions at King Power Stadium, courtesy of Bernardo Silva's strike in the 62nd minute, but visiting goalkeeper Ederson had to be alert throughout the encounter as Leicester regularly threatened.
Although disappointed to lose, Rodgers was thrilled to welcome both Vestergaard and Evans back from injury, with latter making his first appearance from the bench since the final of the Emirates FA Cup back in May. Vestergaard, meanwhile, was hugely impressive after starting the contest on Filbert Way.
"I think it’s just managing him through the game time," Rodgers said, discussing Vestergaard's full debut for the Club. "That’s important. He’s a player who we want to get some game time into.
"In that little spell just before he comes off, you can see that tiredness where Ferran [Torres] is starting to get in behind and the legs can’t quite get there. But overall, I thought he was excellent in the game, so it was good for him and Jonny to get minutes.
"He’s not had too much training but we feel we wanted to get some game time into his legs. Both those guys are going to be important for us. Obviously, with only three subs, you’re having to manage it carefully."
The Foxes manager also handed winger Ademola Lookman a maiden outing from the bench after the former Everton man joined the Club on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig last month. Lookman twice went close to levelling the scores for Leicester, including with his first touch, which Ederson saved.
"I thought he came in and pressed the game well," Rodgers added. "He was aggressive. He had one moment where he broke away and probably should have done better, but he’s going to be a really good player for us. He had explosive speed to get in and their ‘keeper does really well to come out and block it."
