The Foxes make the trip to Etihad Stadium for the Saturday evening kick-off in the hope of extending their unbeaten run to 12 games in all competitions.

The 2017/18 and 2018/19 Premier League winners, meanwhile, head into the clash having won at Oxford United in the Carabao Cup in midweek, following a convincing 3-0 victory over Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

“They are the champions and they are a top-class team with an incredible manager (Pep Guardiola) who has really developed them over these last few seasons,” Rodgers said of Saturday’s opponents.

“The last time I watched them, they were in pretty good form with the games that they’ve played, so we know the task that’s ahead for us, but that’s this team and that’s what we relish.

“We relish the challenge of playing against these big teams that are up there and have got top-class performers. We get the chance how we have grown and how we’re developing as a team, and we’re looking to take on that challenge.”

Pep Guardiola’s side have been beaten by Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United at Etihad Stadium this term, and Rodgers believes that if City are to claim all three points on Saturday, they must display balance in their play.

He added: “Every game is different. If you look at the two teams that have won there, they were very good in counter-attacking moments, but you have to have real balance in your game.

“You go to Manchester City, you have to be very concentrated and you have to be able to defend well. Of course, you need a little bit of luck on your side as well.

“Then, you have to have that courage to go and play, and have that belief, and I think we showed there when we went there last season that the players have that courage to go and play and take the game to the opponent.

“It was an incredible finish that beat us on that evening, so we respect the size of the task, but everything is always possible and that’s something that we always believe in every single game we play.”
