- Brendan Rodgers responds to Leicester City's 3-1 win over Legia Warsaw- It's a victory which moves the Foxes to the summit of Group C in the UEFA Europa League- Rodgers was delighted by the nature of City's performance against the Polish side- He also credits the Club's supporters for the role they played on a memorable evening
The Foxes move to the top of Group C with a victory, courtesy of goals from Patson Daka, James Maddison and Wilfred Ndidi, with just one match to play in the group stage. That takes them to Napoli early in December as City look to reach the knockout phase of the competition. Leicester's form has been inconsistent over recent weeks, so Rodgers was pleased to see his players express themselves at Filbert Way on Thursday - delivering a performance typified by defensive organisation and potent attacking play in the right moments. "I was really pleased with the performance," the Northern Irishman said afterwards. "Tonight was about getting not just the result, but equally as important was the performance. We were able to play our football that you’ll recognise, in terms of our pressing and a real intense counter-press.
"That was really good and, throughout the game, we looked solid. I’m really pleased with it overall. We’re in a good position now going into the last game."
Rodgers also believed the Club's supporters played a crucial role in the win with a capacity crowd roaring the Foxes on to an essential three points.
"A big part of that was the crowd," he added. "You sensed the crowd were up for it as well. They’re so important. The atmosphere in the stadium tonight was great. You can see the push they give the team. When they’re like that, home and away, it’s absolutely brilliant.
"It gives [the players] that energy and they had the structure to go and press. I thought they did that well, getting onto second balls and then we can play our football. I’m much happier with the fluidity of the team, the positioning of the team, both with and without the ball.
"In the second half, we could control the game a little bit more without the ball. We defended well, with not too many concerns. We defended set pieces well and I thought we were unfortunate with the penalty. Overall, [the intention] was to win and play well and we did that."
