The Foxes were beaten 4-2 by the Magpies on Filbert Way with Joe Willock and Paul Dummett scoring before the break and Callum Wilson striking twice in the second half. Although Marc Albrighton and Kelechi Iheanacho halved the deficit, Rodgers was still frustrated at full-time. "It’s a period of the season, especially when you’re challenging, were things are going to be tight," he said. "There’s a lot to play for. One of the biggest things you need to be is super concentrated. If you look at some of the goals we gave away, especially the first one, they’re poor goals.
"We didn’t defend well at all in those moments. Credit to the players, though, as they kept going. Normally, if you get to that stage of the game, some teams will sink. The players kept fighting, kept running, kept working. We scored two goals and actually could have had four or five goals ourselves on the evening.
"Their ‘keeper has made some great saves, but if you defend like that, especially in a really important period, then you’re going to struggle to win games in the Premier League."
Rodgers says he will now go away and analyse the game, something he doesn't expect to be difficult, ahead of Tuesday's visit to Manchester United (6pm BST kick-off).
"It’s very frustrating when you know the players we have and how we have defended for most of this season," he added. "I think you saw the blow of Jonny [Evans] not playing. He’s such a great organiser for us. He keeps us really tight and keeps the line up nice and high and he can pull everyone around. "It was obviously a blow to lose him. It spilled into our passing, we weren’t precise enough. We gave the ball away too cheaply, so that can be frustrating, but it’s an easy game to analyse. When I look back on it later, it’s not one you have to look too much at.
"We just made poor errors, but we give credit to Newcastle because they’ve got strong players on the pitch. If you make mistakes, they will punish you."
