- Brendan Rodgers spoke to LCFC TV following Leicester City's 2-1 reverse at Chelsea- The Foxes fell to only their third Premier League away defeat of the season on Tuesday night- City's manager says his side needed to show more patience in attacking areas- All focus is now on Sunday's visit of Tottenham Hotspur, the Northern Irishman adds
Antonio Rüdiger's 47th-minute opener was followed by a Jorginho penalty as the Foxes fell two goals behind in their first Premier League fixture in front of spectators since March 2020.
While Kelechi Iheanacho got one back for Leicester at Stamford Bridge and Ayoze Pérez missed on 90 minutes, the visitors weren't able to rescue a point in west London in the Club's penultimate fixture of the campaign.
"When we got to 2-1, it made it interesting," said Rodgers, who had earlier discussed his frustration at two defensive errors to concede the goals. "We were playing well. The only thing I’d say is we just needed a bit more craft in the final third, a little more patience.
"We might have had two or three more opportunities, but I can’t fault the effort or the mentality of the team."
Iheanacho, meanwhile, was utilised from the bench in the capital and Rodgers revealed the reasoning behind the decision, before also praising the Nigerian's impact on the clash.
"It’s just his legs," the 48-year-old added. "He’d run so much at the weekend, given absolutely everything. We wanted the pace of Jamie to threaten the backline and then try and have two no.10s in Ayo and James [Maddison] in behind.
"We’d hopefully be in the game right through to the last half an hour so he could come in and he did well, Kels."
Rodgers will now be looking to work with his squad at LCFC Training Ground over the coming days ahead of a decisive final-day encounter with Tottenham Hotspur in front of the Blue Army at King Power Stadium on Sunday.
"It’s very easy (to motivate the players to respond) because I’ve got an honest group of players who have given me absolutely everything this season," he continued.
"We’ve had so many injuries and everything else, but we have an opportunity still at the weekend."
