- Leicester City drew 2-2 with Manchester United at King Power Stadium on Boxing Day- Manager Brendan Rodgers reflects on the result, City's first draw of the 2020/21 season- The Northern Irishman was impressed by the 'authority' of his side's performance- Rodgers also highlights the performance of James Justin against Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba
United twice took the lead on Filbert Way, through Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes in either half, with Harvey Barnes and then an Axel Tuanzebe own goal twice pegging the Red Devils back.
After becoming the first team this season to prevent Ole Gunnar Solskjær's men from tasting victory on away ground, Rodgers was pleased with the mentality on show from his players.
"We were unfortunate to go behind, I felt," the Northern Irishman told the national media during his post-match press conference on Filbert Way following matchday 15.
"We got an equaliser, which we deserved, and I thought throughout the game, we showed real quality and we can compete against a team who have won every game away from home.
"You can see the quality in their movement how dangerous they are, but we were disappointed with the second goal, we’ll look at it.
"We showed that spirt and mentality which we’ve spoken about before. It’s growing in the team, with the more confidence they gain, that they can come back.
"We’ve got fitness levels, so we can keep going until the very end, and we thoroughly deserved the point in the end."
Rodgers believes the Foxes' performance demonstrated the progress they have made over recent months, both on a collective and individual basis, highlighting James Justin in particular.
"You’re going to get that against top level opposition," he added, addressing the goals conceded. "If you look at the possibilities they have on the pitch and who they can bring off the bench, you’ll always be tested.
"We gave them lots of problems as well with the speed of our movement. Me looking at it and seeing the team develop, I thought we had very good authority in the game.
"That shows we’re developing and able to compete at the very highest level. I said at the beginning of the season that, with this group, it’s just time.
"We showed lots of potential last year, but with more coaching time and work, the players will improve.
"At 22 years of age, [Justin's] played in the last week against two world-class players and kept them relatively quite, in terms of Son Heung-min and Marcus [Rashford].
"In the second half, he went onto the other side, but I thought he dealt with it really well. Obviously, he could then release himself forward more against [Paul] Pogba on that side.
"He’s developing and growing and he’s getting great experiences at this level."
