The Foxes welcome Chelsea to King Power Stadium on Sunday (4pm kick-off) for a behind-closed-doors Emirates FA Cup Quarter-Final tie, which is live on BT Sport 1. Due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic, neither side has played in the competition since early March, when City saw off Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City 1-0 and Chelsea beat Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in the fifth round. Both teams also played at home in midweek with Chelsea taking three points from Manchester City and Leicester drawing against Brighton & Hove Albion. Rodgers says all focus is now firmly on the FA Cup and targeting progression into a Wembley semi-final. “Each season I am here we will give it everything we possibly can and give it the respect it deserves,” the Northern Irishman said in his virtual pre-match press conference on Friday.
"Of course there are tough opponents in front of us and if we get through that, you’ve still got another couple of games, but it will always be a very important competition for us.
“Cups are different. They are one-off games and you have to have that something extra. That extra little bit of desire, that little bit extra motivation to go on and challenge teams to beat them.”
The Foxes have already played in a semi-final this season, in the Carabao Cup, where the cup run was ended by Aston Villa in Birmingham. Rodgers believes that defeat has now given the team extra motivation to go one better in the FA Cup, the only domestic trophy the Club has failed to win in its 136-year history.
He added: “We were really disappointed with the Aston Villa semi-final, even though we played reasonably well and created enough chances.
“We ultimately didn’t get through so that’s something that we’ll use as a positive going forward.
“You’re never going to have it all your own way, you will lose games like that, but there’s a great motivation not to have that feeling again and that’s what drives you on.”
