- Leicester City’s fans created a brilliant atmosphere on Saturday, says manager Brendan Rodgers- The Foxes beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 at King Power Stadium- Jamie Vardy fired home the winning goal after fine work from Ricardo Pereira
For the first time since March 2020, a sell-out crowd watched on on Filbert Way and urged the Foxes on to three Premier League points on the opening day of 2021/22. Jamie Vardy’s winner, set up by Ricardo Pereira, ultimately sealed the triumph, however Rodgers credited the Club’s supporters for their role on Saturday. Rodgers said: “It was a brilliant atmosphere. They really pushed us over the line in the second half when we were making the blocks and the tackles. “They were right onside with it and I think they would have enjoyed watching the team today.
“It’s great to have them back, we’re better when they’re here and hopefully, we can make this a real fortress again, and make it really difficult to come here.”
City’s fans saw two new faces in action at King Power Stadium, with Jannik Vestergaard and Boubakary Soumaré coming off the bench to help their side to a 1-0 triumph. “It’s a sign of the players that have been doing well and have been amazing over a couple of years,” he added. “These guys will come in and have a big part to play also.
“It’s a very long season and we will need them all. Some are going to pick up injuries, or we need a different type of player, but overall, I was really happy with the squad and what we could bring into the game to help us win the game.
“I’m delighted for Jannik because he hasn’t trained a great deal, to be honest, after his game with Denmark in the Euros. So, to come in and have to play just about half an hour and play with that determination and show that quality in his pass, I was delighted for him.
“Luke Thomas came in in the very last moment to come in and play. He was very, very good.”
