- Brendan Rodgers speaks following Sunday's 3-1 defeat by Arsenal at King Power Stadium- The Leicester City manager discusses the Foxes' energy levels after the 38th outing of 2020/21- Rodgers says 'spirit and endeavour' remain an obligation of his players despite several injuries- Harvey Barnes and Jonny Evans joined a list of eight first team players currently out
The Foxes remain third in the Premier League after goals from David Luiz, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pépé overturned Youri Tielemans' early opener at King Power Stadium.
Harvey Barnes (knee) and Jonny Evans (calf) have now been added to an injury list which also includes James Justin (ACL), James Maddison (hip), Ayoze Pérez (knee), Wesley Fofana (hamstring), Dennis Praet (hamstring) and Wes Morgan (back).
The Leicester duo were substituted during the second half on Sunday and, following the 38th competitive outing of 2020/21, Rodgers admits energy conservation is an issue.
"We're down to the bare bones really, but we've carried it all season and the players have been great," the Northern Irishman said. "Even when we got the first goal, that energy, if you look at the fact Arsenal made [six] changes, they had the greater energy in the game.
"My players, up until this point, have been brilliant. We've suffered with a lot, we've had to get through and find a way. Of course, when you're missing influential players and you can't rotate and change, it makes it difficult.
"However, we'll find a way. The spirit in the second half, the endeavour, all of those things which, for me, are an obligation, I have to ask the players to contribute that way. Of course, it's just that slight bit of energy which was lacking in the team and it's unfortunate."
Playing under physical duress is perhaps best demonstrated by a lack of precision with passing, Rodgers believes, and the 48-year-old says that was notable in some of City's football against Arsenal.
"One thing that goes whenever you are tired is your technique and seeing passes going astray, which is always the tell-tell sign, especially with our team," he continued.
"We're normally crisp and precise with our passes. I'm disappointed with the third goal, because we had bodies around the ball. Lacazette breaks out and they get away and then they get the fortune in the box to get the third goal. From that point, they can drop in deeper.
"Then, we really had to work the ball to try and create opportunities. We had a couple of little half chances, Kels (Kelechi Iheanacho) had one at the end, which could have made it interesting.
"But overall, we didn't influence the game in the way we wanted to."
Nevertheless, Rodgers says Leicester will give everything to ensure a positive end to a season which has included so many highlights and he backed his team to 'find a way' to battle through the current injury problems.
He added: "We've been on a great run in the Premier League, this is a disappointment for us today. It's the first [home] game we've lost to a so-called 'big six' club, but now we've got to to go away and face the challenge now.
"We've got players out, but let's come together and find a way to win our next game. We have to dig deep now. I can't control injuries, but what I can control is the attitude and the mentality of the team.
"For that, the players are absolutely brilliant. We'll go away, we'll try and recover now. It's a couple of days before another big game for us (vs. Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday) and we'll do our very, very best with what's available right through to the end of the season."
