- Brendan Rodgers reacts to Leicester City's 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace- The Foxes were two goals ahead at half-time but had to settle for a point- Rodgers says there is much improvement to be made in defensive areas of the pitch- Work will be done over the international break to react to that issue, Rodgers adds
City opened up a two-goal advantage in the first half at Crystal Palace on Sunday, with Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy striking in south London, but goals from Michael Olise and Jeff Schlupp rescued a point for the Eagles. Rodgers, though, saw reasons for concern before Palace's comeback. "When you're 2-0 up, you'll always feel disappointed," the Northern Irishman said. "Probably, with the overall performance, we didn't deserve much more. The players showed grit and determination, we scored two very good goals, but we're still searching for that stability when we're defending.
"That's something that needs to improve if we're going to go on and win games like today. It's always a dangerous scoreline, 2-0, and in most of my time here I'd have felt really comfortable with that position because of how we can defend with the ball and then when we haven't, we normally are very solid.
"I just never never felt overly comfortable and then, when it gets to two each, the momentum can really go against you. The players kept fighting and I was encouraged with that. They're giving everything, we're just not playing to our level, but it might be different this season compared to the last two.
"We've usually started on fire and dropped off a little bit. Hopefully this can be the season where we can build through and finish the season really strong."
Leicester's players will now embark on the next international break of the season, with Rodgers and his staff staying behind to formulate a refined tactical strategy in defensive areas of the pitch.
"There's a chance for us to reflect, have a look at some of the performances and the structure of things within the team," he explained. "I need to decide if we need to change the shape of the team with the personnel that we have and if it allows us to defend with more stability.
"As I say, I've always in the main, been really, really confident in our defending, how we press the game, when we're in moments of pressure, that we see it through. I just have the feeling at the moment that it's not quite where I'd want it to be. We need to do something about it.
"At least now we have a chance to affect that hopefully and bring those ideas to the players when they come back."
