- Crystal Palace visit King Power Stadium to face Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday - Brendan Rodgers backs his young side to get back to winning ways sooner rather than later- The Foxes remain third in the Premier League standings with just six games to play- Rodgers believes City must show more aggression and physicality in their game against Palace
City are yet to win since the Premier League's restart last month, but remain third in the Premier League table ahead of Saturday's home clash with Crystal Palace (3pm BST kick-off). Rodgers believes the Foxes are 'a fraction' away from returning to their best form, which saw them, at one stage, win eight consecutive league games, and propelled them up the standings.
Speaking to the media on Friday, the Northern Irishman admitted Leicester are 'in a little period', but insisted that his squad possesses the quality to swiftly return to winning ways.
"Experience tells you not to be too emotional," Rodgers said. "It’s something where you go back to your basics, that’s always the best way to work.
"There’s no magic dust to sprinkle on it all. We’re a fraction away from being where we want to be and you have to just stay calm, not get too rigid, not too emotional.
"Work on your basics, make sure your organisation is good, and look to ensure the players are giving everything. It’s absolutely natural that a young squad may see confidence drop.
"We’ve been brilliant up until now. We’re in a great position in the table and we just need to continue on our way because that’s worked very well for us.
"We’re in a little period, but it’s a case of staying calm, getting everything right, and making sure the players don’t get locked into thinking we’re only being judged since the restart."
Rodgers believes Leicester need to regain their physicality in games, be less 'timid', and look to impose their own aggression on games, both with and without possession.
"It’s something that can happen when the team’s doing well also, when you become a little bit timid and you lose that aggression," he continued.
"It’s one of the pitfalls for any team. It’s so important to have that physical and mental aggression. That’s something this team is learning all the time.
"For a team like ourselves, we’re a team that doesn’t have a budget like some of the teams around us has. We’ve not got the same type of squad, so we have to be at our maximum.
"To get results and be up where we are, we have to be at our maximum. The minute we drop off that, we won’t have the same output.
"That means, whether you’re attacking the ball or without the ball, you need that physicality and aggression and that’s what I’ve pointed to."
