- Brendan Rodgers analyses Leicester City's 5-0 win over Sheffield United on Sunday- Kelechi Iheanacho hit a hat-trick, while Ayoze Pérez was also on the scoresheet for the Foxes- The City manager was delighted with the clinical football on display from his side on Filbert Way- Leicester's defensive solidity was also enthusing for the Northern Irishman
Kelechi Iheanacho struck his first Foxes hat-trick on Sunday, while Ayoze Pérez was also on the scoresheet, before Ethan Ampadu's own goal wrapped up a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for the home side.
On the back of such an authoritative performance, Rodgers highlighted the result's important to City's goal difference, something which would only have been possible if the goals scored were combined with an assured defensive performance also.
"It’s important," the Northern Irishman told LCFC TV at full-time. "I’ve always said where you can score goals, score them, but equally, keep a clean sheet. From the first whistle right to the very end, the players showed a great hunger in the game and a really good appetite."
City's play in possession was particularly pleasing for Rodgers as the home side looked to stretch play in order to create pockets of space which they could use to exploit Paul Heckingbottom's men.
While impressed by the nature of Leicester's opener, netted by Iheanacho, the 48-year-old called for more from his players at the interval, before watching them add another four goals to the tally.
"We needed that movement," he explained. "We identified pockets of space that we could arrive into and, when you can arrive in there, then you have the quality to score.
"I thought the first goal was a well-worked goal. We moved the ball side to side and we could then play into those pockets and it was a nice little combination between all three which gets the goal.
"Once we got that first goal, you could see the confidence in the team."
