- Brendan Rodgers speaks after Leicester City's 2-0 reverse to Arsenal- Gabriel and Emile Smith Rowe struck inside 20 minutes for the Gunners- Rodgers has called on the Foxes to be more concentrated in early spells of games- He also addresses City's defending at corners, which he says can be improved
A first defeat in six games came courtesy of early efforts from Gabriel and Emile Smith Rowe at King Power Stadium and, although City improved in the second period, Rodgers was frustrated by their difficult start on Filbert Way.
Asked to pinpoint why they fell two goals behind inside 20 minutes, he said: "Concentration. It’s something we spoke specifically about before the game. Especially in a 12:30pm kick-off, you’ve got to get the crowd up. You’ve got to start with aggression, but we got pinned back too early for some reason.
"Arsenal play similarly to Manchester United, 4-2-3-1, where the wingers will stretch the game. Your wing-backs have got to get up and press, but we were pushed back too deep. That gave them the chance to connect the game.
"It was really disappointing and then, of course, in that early period we concede the goal. For the second goal, it was too easy for them to get through. For me, it's concentration. We've got a young squad that's developing at the level - what I mean by that is they're playing European football, lots of games.
"You have to be on it in every game. You can't be giving teams a two-goal start. In the second half, I can have no complaints. I thought we were excellent. We were aggressive, we created opportunities. If we'd have drawn 2-2 today, there couldn't have been a complaint even though we started poorly.
"Their 'keeper (Aaron Ramsdale) made some brilliant saves as well as the end of the first half."
Rodgers also commented on work which can be done to improve Leicester's defensive record, particularly at corners.
"It’s a constant thing," he added. "If you look analyse the Premier League, there’s a lot of goals scored from set pieces in the first post area. It’s not just us, it’s other teams, but from our perspective, we can do much better. The first corner that comes in, which they score from, there’s too much space.
"We just slightly lose our concentration, get into the wrong positions, and then it opens up a space for Gabriel to get his head on it. You’ve got to continue working on it."
