Kasper Schmeichel was the latest Leicester City star to pick up a major award after being named 2016 Danish PFA Player of the Year on Sunday evening.
Voted for by professional Danish footballers, the Danish PFA Player of the Year award has gone to Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen for the past three years, while Schmeichel won the Young Players Player of the Year back in 2007.
The award, for Schmeichel, signifies the Copenhagen-born stopper’s heroics during the Foxes’ 2015/16 Premier League glory, as he kept 15 clean sheets in 38 appearances and made countless brilliant saves along the way.
Alongside shot-stopping, the Denmark international’s swift and accurate distribution has been a key part of City’s forward play since he joined from Leeds United in 2011.
This term, he has helped the Foxes record eight clean sheets in 17 appearances in all competitions, as he continues to impress for the Premier League champions.
Schmeichel’s award comes just two days after team-mate Riyad Mahrez was named as the CAF African Player of the Year.
