As Leicester City prepare to face Swansea City on Sunday, believes it is pivotal for his side to concentrate on their own display, and not that of the Swans.
Since Paul Clement’s arrival, Swansea have won three of their last five Premier League games, losing only to Arsenal and Manchester City.
A vital victory against 19th-placed Crystal Palace and wins over Liverpool and Southampton have seen Sunday’s opposition move out of the bottom three, and they now sit level on points with the Foxes.
But Schmeichel insisted that while he is aware of Swansea’s quality, it is down to his side to put in a performance that is worthy of earning all three points.
“It’s a big game,” said the City stopper. “It’s another chance for us to pick up three points and that’s something we have to do because we’re desperately in need of them.
“We saved ourselves with less games than 13 not long ago, so there’s no need to panic. We aren’t the situation that we were at that point, but we do need to pick up, that’s for sure.
“Now, there’s 14 games to go. Swansea is a big game, but so is the game after that. Our full focus is on Swansea. It’s going to be tough.
“Swansea is always a tough place to go to. We had a really good result there last year, so it would be nice to replicate something like that.
“They’re a very good side and they’ve got a manager who is new in a management role in the Premier League, but has vast experience of working at some of the biggest teams in the world with some of the biggest managers of all time.
“I’m sure that he’ll have a game plan for them, but it’ll be up to us to do our thing.”
The Foxes will no doubt be boosted by the return of Islam Slimani, who could again feature after coming on against Derby County, while Daniel Amartey played 120 minutes just four days after featuring for Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations.
“They’re all big players for us,” added the City ‘keeper. “The Africa Cup of Nations is tough for any club that has to lose players part way through the season.
“It’s nice to have them back and it gives the manager some more options.”
