to Manchester United came on Sunday, despite a positive opening performance against Jose Mourinho’s ruthless Red Devils.
The Foxes matched Sunday’s opponents for 40 minutes, but two quick-fire goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic put the visitors 2-0 up.
Juan Mata made it 3-0 just four minutes after the break and following the game, Schmeichel gave an honest assessment of City’s performance.
“For the first 40 minutes, we played okay,” said the stopper. “After that, it was unacceptable.
“You can always go 1-0 down in the game but you can’t let that happen – you can’t go 2-0 down straight after. It’s not good enough and it sums our season up at the moment.
“Last season has gone, as you can clearly see. We need to stand up and be counted this season from top to bottom.
“This season hasn't been good enough right from the start. We’re a group of players that are low on confidence, but we’re certainly not low on fight.
“We’ll fight until the end, whatever that may be, but I can guarantee you that every player in there (the dressing room) is hurting. It’s not a situation that is comfortable. We have to improve right now.”
