- Leicester City in the Community hosted the Street Soccer Cup at Leicester City’s training ground in Seagrave- They deliver the 10-week Street Soccer Academy course- The development programme was created to build employability skills for 18-25-year-olds applying for their first career opportunities
Participants from Leicester City in the Community’s Street Soccer Academy took to LCFC Training Ground and competed in the latest instalment of the Street Soccer Academy National Cup.
The tournament – run by Street Soccer Foundation – was hosted at the Seagrave site for the first time and welcomed 18 teams representing their football club’s community organisations.
Street Soccer Academy was designed to combine the power of football with supporting and developing the mindsets of the young people who take part. The sessions help to teach participants valuable employability skills as well as instilling confidence and resilience.
Euan, a participant, explained how the course has helped him develop: “Before taking this course I didn’t talk to people, but the programme has really helped me to gain confidence.

"As a Leicester City fan, I’m really excited to be here where the players have trained and still train to this day. It also makes me feel like I might have a chance at actually playing football.”
The tournament saw teams compete from right across the country, from Sunderland to Crystal Palace, and eventual winners Everton A, compete at this year’s Street Soccer Cup.
Euan and the Leicester City Street Soccer Academy cohort finished fourth in a group with Liverpool, Brentford, Derby, Wycombe and Chelsea.
Keith Mabbutt, founder and CEO of the Street Soccer Foundation, reflected on the venue and the impact the tournament had on this year’s participants.
“This is the most incredible venue," he announced. "When the young people arrived it just set the scene for the day, and we’ve helped them to create lifetime memories here.
“We've been growing every year in terms of the number of clubs - last year I think it was 10 in terms of the National Cup. So, you can see it's almost doubled in size in the year and we want to double it up again. The numbers are building which is great because it means more young people that we’re collectively helping, which is brilliant.”
Leicester City in the Community’s Street Soccer programme will be restarted in September for the winter.
