- Leicester City face Sevilla in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday- The Foxes arrived in Andalusia on Tuesday morning to prepare for the first leg- Recent absentee Islam Slimani among the travelling party- Claudio Ranieri’s squad to train at the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Tuesday eveningThe Leicester City squad arrived in southern Spain on Tuesday morning, as they prepare to resume their UEFA Champions League adventure in Seville. The Foxes take on European specialists Sevilla in the first leg of their last 16 tie at the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Wednesday night, looking to build foundations to progress ahead of the return leg in Leicester on 14 March.Claudio Ranieri’s men have shown themselves to be adept in elite European competition during their debut season in the UEFA Champions League, advancing to the knockout stages as Group G winners with a game to spare.Their credentials will be severely examined in the last 16, however, against a Sevilla side whose recent record in knockout competition can be rivalled by very few. The Andalusian club have won the UEFA Europa League in each of the last three seasons, are unbeaten in two-legged knockout ties in Europe since 2011 and lost just one European match at home in 2016.Jorge Sampaloli’s men are also in fine form, having won eight of their last 12 games, including an impressive victory that ended La Liga leaders Real Madrid’s recent 40-game unbeaten run.But underdog-status has been a friend to City in recent years and there were no signs of apprehension among the squad as they departed East Midlands Airport on Tuesday morning. Following arrival in Seville, the squad were transferred to their base a short drive from the Sanchez Pizjuan.Among the travelling party was Algerian forward Islam Slimani, who sat out Saturday’s FA Cup defeat at Millwall while he steadily recovers from a groin injury. Having returned from the Africa Cup of Nations last month, the former Sporting Lisbon striker has featured sparingly for the Foxes, but completed 30 minutes off the bench against Derby County in the previous round, then 45 minutes as a substitute at Swansea City.Ranieri made 10 changes to his side for Saturday’s trip to The Den and the likes of Wes Morgan, Kasper Schmeichel, Robert Huth and Danny Drinkwater will all be back in contention having not featured in the squad at the weekend.City’s travelling squad will train at Sanchez Pizjuan on Thursday evening, prior to which Ranieri and striker Jamie Vardy will face the media at the official UEFA pre-match press conference.Stay tuned to our for all the build-up to Wednesday night's game.
