- Captain Wes Morgan wants Leicester City to begin the season on the front foot against Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal- The Foxes head to London on Friday evening (7.45pm kick-off)- Morgan is eyeing a positive, focused start at Emirates Stadium
The skipper and his men head to Emirates Stadium on Friday evening for their maiden fixture of the new term following a busy pre-season schedule.
Morgan is well aware of the difficulty of this weekend’s challenge, but knows the Foxes are more than capable of returning to Leicester with points on the board.
Speaking ahead of the game, he said: “It’s important because everyone wants to have a good start. If you don’t start well, that carries on and we don’t want to be in that position. We want to start well, pick up points early and look up the table rather than down it.
“There are no easy games in the Premier League and there’s no doubt that we’ve got a difficult start to the season, but you have to face them all at some point.
“We just need to make sure that we have a good start and focus. We know what we can do on our day, we just need to do it.
“They’ve got some good individual players so they’re a team that we need to be well aware of, but at the same time we know what we’re capable of and we’ve got to show that.
“It’s a big incentive that we’ve beaten almost everyone apart from Arsenal, so that’s a scalp that we still need to get and if anything, that’ll spur us on even more.”
While City understand how tough Friday’s encounter will be, Morgan says that will not affect his side’s approach in the capital.
He added: “Going away to Arsenal is a very tough game at any stage of the season. We’re all fresh, ready to go and we’re the first game live on Sky so we can’t wait to get started and show what we’re made of.
“You go there and know that you’re at Arsenal’s ground so you know you won’t have much of the ball because they’re a passing team and like to create angles and probe.
“You go there with the right state of mind knowing that you might not see the ball for five or 10 minutes but when you do get it, it’s important what you do with it. We’ll have our game plan and hopefully it’ll work out."
