- Willie Kirk spoke to the media ahead of LCFC Women's first game of the season- The Foxes face Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Sunday afternoon (2pm kick-off)- Remy Siemsen has picked up an ankle injury in pre-season- The forward will be sidelined for six to seven weeks, the Manager confirmed
For the first time since May, Kirk spoke to the media at Belvoir Drive, as the new dawn of the 2023/24 WSL season fast approaches. City's Manager takes his side to Ashton Gate for a 2pm kick-off on Sunday.
The squad will head into that opening fixture without forward Siemsen, however, with the Australian set to miss the Robins trip after picking up an ankle injury in the final stages of pre-season. It's one that is likely to rule her out for up to six or seven weeks, according to Kirk.
"We've picked up one injury," Kirk stated on Thursday. "Siemsen is out for six or seven weeks with an ankle ligament injury that she picked up last week. We've had it scanned and she'll miss the start of the season which she is understandably disappointed about, but she's a good character that will be able to bounce back.
"In terms of our team selection, it doesn't affect us too much and we're not too concerned as we've had a positive summer transfer window where we've managed to add necessary depth to make sure we can get through the season, with or without injuries."
In terms of attackers, the 44-year-old has strengthened the Foxes with the signings of Jutta Rantala, Lena Petermann and Deanne Rose, along with Welsh forward Hannah Cain who signed a new long-term deal at the Club this summer.
