In the Club's first-ever top-flight season last time around, Lydia Bedford's side preserved their WSL status, finishing two points above relegated Birmingham City. The ambition in 2022/23, however, will be to build on that progress and strive to consolidate at the highest level of English women's football.
Simon - who joins following the end of her contract at National Women's Soccer League outfit Racing Louisville - is LCFC Women's third signing of the summer. The 27-year-old former West Ham United defender has spent the last two years in the United States of America but is now back in the United Kingdom.
"I’m excited to be back in the UK," a thrilled Simon told LCFC TV this week. "It was definitely a whirlwind couple of weeks for me but I’m excited to finally be here. Everyone’s been incredible so far and so nice and welcoming. I’m excited to get to know people and spend more time with them, for sure.
"I’ve had some great conversations with Lydia. We mostly talk about dogs! Obviously, she loves Baxter and I love my dog, Finn, so we talked a lot about dogs, but she has an awesome mindset for this year. She has a great perspective so I’m really excited to work for her and be a part of this team.
"Obviously, for the team, it was tremendous that they were able to stay in the top flight. That was incredible for them so we’re pushing to reach a higher standard than that. I think Lydia’s doing a great job with bringing players in to do that and it’s great feeling so far in pre-season.
"We definitely want to climb the table and see what we can do this season. That’s really exciting and I’m excited to be a part of this club."
Simon, who began her football career with Syracuse University in 2012, is also looking forward to settling into the Leicestershire region - and reacclimatising to English football after spending two years at West Ham. That spell in the capital included an appearance in the 2019 FA Cup final.
"It’s definitely much different from London!" she explained. "It’s a different feel but I like it, I’m more of a countryside girl. I’m not a huge city girl, so to be out here, where there’s more natural and stuff, I’ve enjoyed it so far.
"I was kind of thrown in at West Ham and didn’t really know much about the country but now, coming back, I know a little bit and I’m not as raw coming back. I know how the country works and I’ve obviously played against a couple of the teams, so I know what I’m getting myself into.
"I’m excited to play against a couple of friends from West Ham, who are now scattered across the league, but also excited to play against the tremendous players that play in this league."
The NWSL is considered one of the most competitive leagues in women's football and Simon hopes she can bring those experiences to Leicester.
"It's definitely a different style of play, it’s very transitional," she explained. "It’s fast-paced and very athletic, so to bring that to this league, which is growing those aspects, that’s hopefully something I can add to the league. It’s a tremendous league to play, the NWSL, there’s incredible players there.
"The entire US national team is scattered across it, so to play against some of the top players in that league was a lot of fun. Hopefully I can bring that experience here as well. One of my proudest moments was to represent the USA at the national team level.
"I’ll never take for granted putting the crest on. That was a really cool experience and I’m grateful for it."
On what the Foxes faithful can expect from her, Simon's message was simple: "I’m a bit of a goof-ball off the field, but on the field, you know that I’ll give 100 per cent every single game. I’ll put my body on the line as a defender and give you my all. I won’t back down from anything."
