- Harry Souttar featured for Australia on Friday- The Socceroos were knocked out of the Asian Cup by South Korea- Hwang Hee-chan and Son Heung-min struck to defeat Graham Arnold's men- Australia were 1-0 up until the 96th minute in Qatar

The Group B winners were in this stage of the competition after a comprehensive victory over Indonesia on Sunday, moving them closer to Asian Cup glory for only the second time.

However, despite taking the lead through Craig Goodwin in the first half and looking destined for the last-four, a 96th-minute equaliser from Hwang Hee-chan from the penalty spot forced the tie into extra-time.

It was a bitterly frustrating ending to normal time for the Socceroos, but it took another turn for the worse later on, as Son Heung-min scored a free-kick to give South Korea a 2-1 lead. Aiden O'Neill's red card then made things even harder for Australia.

Souttar even found himself playing up front for Australia in the latter moments as the 10-man outfit pushed for a late leveller in Al-Wakrah, but it wasn't to be.

Elsewhere, Kelechi Iheanacho was an unused substitute in Nigeria's 1-0 win over Angola in the quarter-finals of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations later in the day. Former Foxes loanee Ademola Lookman got the goal for the Super Eagles.
