- Harry Souttar scored the opening goal of Australia's win over New Zealand- Patson Daka found the net twice for Zambia in a 3-0 friendly victory- Cesare Casadei started as Italy Under-21s triumphed against Norway- Mads Hermansen was an unused Denmark substitute
Having played throughout Australia's narrow 1-0 defeat to England at Wembley on Friday, Souttar featured in the midweek friendly match, netting the opener after 13 minutes when Mitchell Duke's shot cannoned off the centre-back and into the net. The Socceroos double their advantage through Jackson Irvine to comfortably see off neighbours New Zealand 2-0 at Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium.
Elsewhere, Foxes forward Daka scored twice in Zambia’s 3-0 friendly victory over Uganda at Al-Hamriya Sports Club Stadium in Sharjah. The 25-year-old converted a sixth-minute penalty before Fashion Sakala added a second on 64 minutes. Daka completed his brace five minutes later to round-off the scoring.
Casadei, meanwhile, starred in Italy Under-21s' UEFA EURO U21 qualifier against Norway Under-21s, which finished 2-0 to the hosts at Stadio Druso. Playing 72 minutes of the contest, the midfielder was replaced by Fabio Miretti after goals from Tommaso Baldanzi and Sebastiano Esposito. The result sees the Azzurri move into second place in Group A, on seven points from their first three games.
And goalkeeper Mads Hermansen was on the bench again as the Danes beat San Marino 2-1 to remain second in UEFA EURO qualification Group H.
On Monday, Wilfred Ndidi was an unused substitute for Nigeria, who sealed a 3-2 friendly win over Mozambique in Portugal. Wout Faes also started for Belgium in their EURO 2024 qualifier against Sweden at King Baudouin Stadium. The match, however, was abandoned at half-time due to a security situation in Brussels. The score was 1-1 before play was suspended.
