- Leicester City tackle Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon- Foxes defender Harry Souttar has previewed the 3pm GMT kick-off- Performances need to turn into results, the centre-back tells LCFC TV- The supporters on Filbert Way can play a role this weekend, he adds
Leaving the south coast empty-handed following defeat to Southampton, the Foxes must now look towards the next challenge of welcoming Chelsea to King Power Stadium on Saturday. Sitting down with LCFC TV inside LCFC Training Ground prior to the encounter with the Blues, Souttar acknowledged that City have not hit the level required but is optimistic that progress can be made, especially back in front of the Blue Army. The centre-back said: “Obviously the last couple of results have been disappointing, but I think there’s been some real positives in those games as well. The results are the only thing that matter, but the performances have been good.
“Some of the chances we had… we created a lot and, on another day, they go in and it’s happy days. We have to take that into Saturday and see where we go. You’ve got to use those in a good way to fuel you in the games up ahead and put it right at the weekend. Hopefully we can do that.
“We know it’s not just going to be us, but with the supporters backing us as well, that’s going to be a massive help. Ultimately, they can only back good performances on the pitch, so we’ve got to give them something to cheer about, which is the main thing.”
Graham Potter’s side have recovered from their own tough spell of form to win their previous Premier League fixture - beating Leeds United - and also progress in Europe against Borussia Dortmund. Although aware of the task ahead, the defender’s concentration is on Leicester’s own plan of attack.
The Australian international continued: “It’s going to be a really difficult game. They’ve won their last couple and had a really good result in midweek in the Champions League playing really well, so it’s going to be another tough test.
“But I think the main focus has got to be on ourselves and the way we play and how we approach the game. We’ve got a couple days of training to work on a few things.
“So far, I’ve not been here long, but we’ve played some big teams and had some good results and some bad results. It’s been a mixture of everything really. It’s another big game but three points are up for grabs and that’s what we’re going to try and get.”
Since joining from Stoke City in January, he has partnered Wout Faes in all five of his top-flight appearances to date. Souttar praised Faes' contribution to helping settle in to the role and develop chemistry to strengthen the connection between the pair. “He’s a really good player,” the 24-year-old explained. “He’s really comfortable on the ball. You feel confident giving it to him, because he doesn’t give it away. He’s a leader as well from being young. He’s a talker and he’s mobile as well. It’s good to play beside him and I know it’s the way the manager wants to play.
“It’ll start to grow between us two and the rest of the team as well. I’ve only had five games and a number of training sessions, so the more we play together and the more we train together, the more we’ll learn from each other and hopefully get better.”
