- Stoke City welcome Leicester City to bet365 Stadium in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round on Saturday- The 3pm kick-off sees the Premier League Foxes tackle Sky Bet Championship opposition- Brendan Rodgers and James Justin have previewed from the clash from a Leicester perspective- Potters manager Michael O'Neill and Rabbi Matondo have also spoken in the media this week
Ahead of that third round tie in Staffordshire, Brendan Rodgers addressed the national media in the King Power Centre in Seagrave on Thursday, while full-back James Justin also previewed the clash.
For Stoke, manager Michael O'Neill was speaking following a 1-0 defeat by AFC Bournemouth last Saturday, before Wales midfielder Rabbi Matondo reflected on his loan switch from Schalke 04...
Brendan Rodgers on O'Neill's management qualities: "He had an excellent career as a player, he was always very bright and was always going to be successful in whatever we went into. Of course, when he arrived into Northern Ireland, the job he did there was in incredible. There was a good generation of players, but he was virtually starting from scratch, he didn't have an office. What he did there, for about nine years, from when we first went in, to creating an environment... I know from speaking to Jonny [Evans], they really bought into what he was doing."
Michael O'Neill, speaking to Stoke City+, after the Potter's slender defeat by AFC Bournemouth: "It was one moment which defined the game. We had opportunities in the first half, but we didn't manage to take them. We needed to give the players a bit of a break. They've been in consistently since the start of the season and it's been a gruelling schedule. With the games in the cup, we've played 28 games in a relatively short space of time. We've given them a couple of days to let them refresh and then we'll build into the game against Leicester."
Defender James Justin, in conversation with LCFC TV in Seagrave: "It’s going to be a great day. I’m really looking forward to it and hopefully we can get through to the next round. I know it’s against a top team in Stoke, but hopefully we’ll get the job done. We’ll be looking to attack from the offset really. [We need to] assert our dominance in the game, but we know they’re a good side, so we’ve got to respect them as well. For the players and the staff, the FA Cup’s such a big opportunity for us to get some silverware and we’ll be looking to do that."
New Stoke signing, Rabbi Matondo, on joining the club, with stokecityfc.com: "This is a club that was in the Premier League for 10 years. Now it’s in the Championship but I know with the group of lads we have in this team, they’re pushing to go up. Hopefully I can add a bit coming in and help the guys get what they’re trying to achieve as well, help the gaffer and everyone at the club. I believe in everything the gaffer has said to me and the way he spoke to me. I liked everything about Stoke and now I have a big opportunity, hopefully I can take it and make the most of the opportunity."
