The Leicester City Development Squad travel to Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday night looking to build upon an impressive 2-2 away draw with West Ham United in the Premier League Cup.
Steve Beaglehole’s men remain bottom of Group E with two points and they need to return with all three from the Checkatrade Stadium if they are to go into next week’s trip to Nottingham Forest with anything to play for.
City suffered a narrow 1-0 loss in the corresponding fixture to leaders Brighton at St George’s Park last month with Conor Tighe's 64th minute strike ultimately proving to be enough for Simon Rusk’s side to triumph in Burton-upon-Trent.
The Foxes, however, have delivered a number of encouraging performances in recent weeks, including the 3-3 draw with Premier League 2 title hopefuls Manchester City a fortnight ago, and they were only denied victory by a late Hammers equaliser last time out.
The Seagulls go into the clash at the Checkatrade Stadium on the back of a 1-0 success over leaders Swansea City last Monday courtesy of Harry Cardwell's early strike in Premier League 2 Division 2.
Rusk’s men recovered from a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers the week before and the victory over the Swans now means they sit in eighth position in the second tier of the Under-23s pyramid.
Brighton have already defeated the Foxes this season and will be confident of repeating the feat on home soil as they bid to make it through to the knockout stages of the competition as Group E winners.
Talking to LCFC TV following the 2-2 draw with West Ham, assistant coach Ben Petty said: “We’re delighted with the display against West Ham, three days after the Southampton game.
“The lads have put a massive effort in but that’s football and it’s a good lesson for the lads. Delighted for Ade [Muskwe] to score two goals, we think he’s developed well over the last few months.
“Again, as a unit, we talked about them staying together and I think anyone at the game saw a real team effort. We targeted three points at West Ham because we felt we needed a win there to stay in the competition. But we want to try and finish with two wins.
“We’ll try and keep the group together, they’re in good spirits and they’re playing well so we’re all looking forward to facing Brighton.”
Simon Rusk, the Brighton Under-23s manager, has expressed his delight at
